This week in our homeschool

 Just for a bit of change, we decided to take our work to the park.

 

 

One of our science lessons was about the skeletal system. Big brother's x-rays from a few years ago came in handy. 

 To celebrate the first day of fall, we did a fall scavenager hunt. We split into two teams. Each team had a list.

 

We ventured into one of our national parks...

 

where we found all kinds of treasures...

 and weird looking things growing out of the ground.

Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. (Read more about it here.)

In honor of such a holiday, we had a pirate themed weekend.

Friday, we hit the library to check out some books on pirates. (Please forgive the quality of the first two pics. All I had on hand was my cell phone.)

Then to avoid a mutiny, we stopped for some lunch before heading home.

One the way home, somehow the Pirate vs. Ninja debate was brought up again. So we decided to settle this age old debate like civilized people.

The two teams met on the battlefield. Rules of engagement were agree upon.

Not everyone stuck to the plan.

At first it seemed the ninjas were going to easily defeat their pirate foes...


And then the ninjas ran out of balloons.

I'm pretty sure fun was had by all and everyone lived to fight another day.

The rest of the weekend we ate Captain Crunch Cereal, fish and chips for lunch, and had our own treasure hunt. The kids found an old treasure map in one of the books we checked out and it led them to buried treasure in our backyard. The booty (Chuck E. Cheese tokens) has been divided and we're off to spend our riches.

What we've been up to this week

We practiced sight words on the porch on one of the outdoor chalkboards.

We learned the 7 continents.

Sort of. Almost.

We studied our five senses starting with our sense of sight to examine those taste buds we keep hearing about.

And even with all that studying, we still had time for tea.
